My conclusions over the years..."You can't cheat the mountain pilgrim"...
The stump gods will have their sacrifices !

So you must educate yourself...stompology ... :archer2:
Nothing "as with everything else in life" surpasses experience . Stumping is no different imho.
Pick your targets wisely ;)If...IF one wanted a pretty hardy arrow, I would "think" it hard to beat a solid fiberglass shaft for busting more stumps and less arrows...
But then again you are missing a "lot" of the fun ;))I shoot (read try to) not only corky stumps-but downed limbs, leaves, pieces of bark , etc... makeup the bulk of a well rounded rove .....

Nothing better for hunting practices , actual field hunting conditions , all the while sharpening your subconscious distance judgement , physical stamina , and your natural Nature connection that will have you more intune , and comfortable, confident , field educated come hunting season...
That in itself is worth the cost of a few arrows my friends ............ :campfire:

Well said, friend.
Here in Norway, hunting anything alive with bow and arrows are prohibited. So my only bow-hunting experience is actually to go stumping. I actually stalk them... Walking around as quiet as I can, picking my targets as I walk. Giving my self challenges by making the shot un-necesseary difficult, just to get the satisfaction if my arrow actually hits mark. That is why I never walk up to a stump to check it before I shoot... you wouldn't do that in a hunting situation. I know stumps dont scare easily, but still. This is my favourite waste of time, just after fishing...
So that is why I started this thread in the first place. I need arrows that can take the kind of abuse a stump-hunter put them through, be it rocks or petrified wood. Of cause it will cost me an arrow every once in a while, and it will still be worth it, but not if I break an arrow on every trip...
Seems like the three arrows I built are holding up, though. They are actually old GT Traditional Hunter arrows, with alu footing in both ends. They have GT's own long insert and 125gn hex blunts. Fly like a dream, and packs a good punch.

I'd want stumping arrows to fly the same as hunting arrows.  As much alike as possible for POA, POI, and thus trajectory when roving - else the "brain sight" might just get confused for hold over, if even there is a hold over.  Takes some time and effort to match a major beefed up carbon stump buster roving arrow to fly about the same POA/POI for a bladed hunting arrow out to 20 yards or so with the same hunting bow, but quite doable.   :saywhat:

Yes Sir Mr. Rob...I'm 100%  practice with what you are going to hunt with .  The mention of the "fish sticks " (Solid glass shafts) was an  "if" someone was just searching for a TOUGH stump busting arrow . My thougts (though heavy for most setups), they would be hard to beat for "durability" smashing stumps.

I've always used my 2nds/blem shafts=often hand straightened shafts . I won't use those for hunting due to weakened material (aluminum) but they are straight/fly straight so they are recycled for stumping duty :biglaugh:

Rivercane shaft with a 9mm casing as point with some lead fishing shot melted into the end for the right grainweight. If you want a footer, Osage or ipe won't let you down. I make my own shafts from lumber and use tied fletching so that if I break a shaft, I just reuse the fletching and points, but if you don't want to break them at all, I'd use rivercane.
