Thanks to to all servicemen and servicewomen past and present.

I just had my retirement ceremony a week ago after 24 years of US Air Force service.

Next month I go down to Lackland AFB to pin my USAF Security Police badge on my son, Christian, when he graduates from Technical School.

Now I get to be the worried parent staying at home.

And a thanks from myself to those who are serving and have served.

My son is also at Lackland AFB.  He made a brave attempt at USAF Pararescue however he experienced shallow water blackout and is now awaiting reclassification.  He also wants to go into Security Police. I am very proud of him.

I am a vet; I feel pale in comparison with so many that gave so much. It is not the decision of the soldier or sailor or marine; or airman; to go into battle.
It is chance; and circumstance; and so I remember those that sat at typewritters; recording things; as well as those feeling the horror of war.
I had a relative that died in the Revolutionary war; a clerk; who was shot after being ordered on a bridge to identify himself; after he put in extra hours taking him into night time. A clerk typist; killed by friendly fire; unable to hear the orders as he was deaf.
There are many ways to serve; and to get hurt; and to die for our country.
I know heaven holds them with love - as we do in memory of their efforts and sacrifices.
Saying 'yahoo' on this day is important; but I make a habit- when I see a man wearing a military cap; I ask them if they served their country; and if they say they did... well 365 days a year; I tell them thank you.
And I keep active on veterans issues and try to support our veterans however I personally can.
I have no patent on this behavior...

thanks to all that have served; all that are; and all that will.

And dispite any differences we might have on other issues and fronts; I mean it with all my heart.
THE VOICES HAVEN'T BOTHERED ME SINCE I STARTED POKING THEM WITH A Q-TIP.

May God bless all of our Sisters and Brothers in uniform, and those who have already served time also. Also the dependants who sit and wait, and all of those folks who take the time to say "Thank You" to a memeber - as a Retired MD State Trooper did to me at the Baltimore Shoot - in mid sentance no less, when he saw my retired USMC pin on my hat. Man , it's hard to see in Maryland sometimes -

I am not a veteran. My dad was in WWII.

My Uncle still bears the tatoo number that the Nazi's gave him when he was taken prisoner at the Battle of The Bulge. He once told me that the American planes would actually fly close to the prison camp so as to scare stag's-he called them deer-within shooting range of the Nazi guards. Then there would food for both sides inside the camp.

My son now contemplates the Air Force or Navy.
I will PROUDLY stand behind him, as he wants to join the service for the RIGHT reasons.
He loves his country as do I!

Here's a GREAT video!

I can only hope those we honor today can still hear my thanks and appreciation in their spiritual lives.

To those that are HERE- Thank You for SERVING!
