I have two shooting lanes I cut for practice in the woods behind my house. Each morning shortly before 8:00am I go out and shoot for about 45 minutes. It is a nice way to start the day before taking any work related calls. The family of deer that live near me I have watched for years and know well. These deer I don't hunt but I use them to learn more about the animals. This morning while pulling my first set of arrows from the bag, I got snorted from the southwest about 30 yards away over a small hill. During my second set of shots, I get another snort from the southeast. Minutes later the snort comes from directly in front of me. This time I cup my hands over my mouth and snort back. The deer immediately replied. I snorted five times and each time the deer replied. I got a chuckle and walked down to pull my last set of arrows. I hear her hop four times on the other side of the hill without really going anywhere. My shooting day was over so I walked back towards the house. As I reached the edge of the woods I hear her bleat from far behind me. This is almost the same game my brother's dog plays when someone says, "Gimme that bone." I think one of the adolescents was frisky this morning and I was it's playmate. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
