After many misses I finally tagged a Big Jack Rabbit, Hare actually. I blood trailed it 100 yards and never found it. No easy target or kill. Congrats, the first is under your belt. Now keep em coming.

Way to go there fellow Lefty!  Love that Zebrawood Pearson too.   How are the cottontails down there this time of the year?  Can't hunt em up north here after March but I'm not sure that I'd want to they generally carry some kind of parasite.
I reckon so

We dont have a closed season on wabits in TEXAS. WE hunt them for many reasons. IN the winter we eat them In the spring and somer we keep them out of our gardens. We boil them in a pot outside with vegitables that the rabbits distroyed and make a stew for our dogs, or pigs. and sometimes in parts of texas whole comuneties get together for rabbit roundups just to thin them out.

cottontails and snowshoes are such good eating! The 'parasite' that concerns people is actually a disease; and its a good idea to use rubber gloves and check the liver on a rabbit.
If the liver is yellow; and not a deep red color we normally see; it could have tularemia (sp) which you can get from contact; but if the rabbit is cooked- your ok ( if you have the courage to eat it).
Fat and healthy rabbits often have fat deposits in the liver; and they will be yellow spots on a liver colored liver; and are not an indication of poor health or disease.
If the liver looks sick; best get rid of the rabbit; and wash off your arrow.
In the winter; those rabbits that have tularemia or other diseases very often are to sick to survive the stress. The 'first frost' does not kill them; or protect you from those rabbits that have the disease- and have not died from it.
But take that healthy rabbit; cut the skin over the middle of the back and yank the skin off in a blink; wash it in water; if you want: soak it in salt water or a vinegar solution.
Cut up the rabbit; roll it in a tempura mix (can be flour with spices) and fry it ( you can just spray pan coating in a pan- and not deep fry it).
then dip the cooked rabbit in ranch dressing; and wooo wooooooo  good stuff!!
THE VOICES HAVEN'T BOTHERED ME SINCE I STARTED POKING THEM WITH A Q-TIP.
