My mammoth ivory bow
« on: June 08, 2008, 04:04:00 PM »
About a 2 months ago, I stepped to Doug Rutter (RocDoc)and asked him to make me a bow using mammoth ivory for accents. I provided the ivory, and he provided the craftmanship. Doug worked with me on the handle and we got it fitted to my hand like a glove. Can't say enough good things about the bow. It turned out every bit as good as I expected, and shoots even better.

49# at 28 inches,  62"amo, mammoth ivory riser accents and tip overlays. (Pics of the tips didn't turn out well, so I just left them out.)  There is a small hairline crack in the riser ivory, but considering it came from a critter thats been dead since at least 10,000 B.C.,  I'd say it held together pretty well.  Zebrawood limbs, and a black mesquite riser.

"But how does it shoot?", my pappy asked me.  I put a couple of cedar shafts into the Backyard Pig of Death as it hid behind a few black locust limbs. Resistance was futile at 22 yards downrange. Pics below, but they just don't do it justice.  The bow is much prettier in person than on camera. Like me.

Thanks again, Doug. You built me a beautiful bow, and it shoots wonderful.

Thanks for lookin'!
