Pigs in Wisconsin?

I stumbled across a link on the wisconsin DNR website that talks about how pigs are moving into wisconsin. you can hunt them year round, no limit, all you need is a small game liscense. I live in minnesota and this sure sounds like it could be a cheap, exciting hunt if you knew where they were. anyone out there hunt pigs in wisconsin? thanks, Dan.

I keep hearing about them, but I have never talked with anyone yet who actually knows exactly where they are. From what I understand it is very localized on private land. The DNR of course would like to prevent a spread, so took the step of making hunting them very liberal. That doesn't mean there are a lot of them at this point, only that the DNR doesn't want any at all.

You can log onto the WDNR website and check for feral pigs - this will give you an updated map of where the sightings have been made. Seems like most are concentrated in the southwestern counties. There are some pics of hunters success - but not much else. There is an email address to get updated information as they have a person accountable for the pig issue.

I went to UW there in the 1960's and met a few on State Street, but never saw any out in Black Earth where I hunted. Glad to hear they are getting some. I still hunt in La Crosse and hope they get some along the river bottoms there.

I have a friend who has a family farm in Crawford County (Southwest WI). He and his dad have killed several hogs in the last few years. Their neighbor killed a 300 pounder. In the area he hunts the landowners and DNR have taken 50+ hogs in the last few years.
I've checked into hogs in Wisconsin but I hear they are hard to find. It seems they are located mainly in the Southwest portion of the state and the landowners have been bombarded by people wanting to hunt hogs. Sounds like it is hard to get access to them.

I would add to str8shooter and whip and say that besides being sparce, they also are nomadic and gaining permission doesn't get you into pigs necessarily. They might have been there yesterday but may not be back for awhile if ever.

its not in the DNR book but there are Pigs in MI too that are fair game year round with a small game liscense as well. There was a bounty on them at one time as well in Montcalm county a couple years back.
Truth is no one really knows if they are true feral pigs or just escaped domesticated ones.

Seems as if baiting in the thick river bottoms might be in order. the guys from TX and LA know how to do that so very well. Might keep them around long enough for a shot.

There is a local fella who has trained some dogs to chase hogs.He has harvested a few over the years, but still very much hit & miss like mentioned above. Most the hogs taken are by chance during the gun deer season. Leland

You don't want 'em. Wish they weren't here either, but they are here to stay. I used to live in Delafield, WI. Never saw sign of any in southeastern part of the state.

Crawford county is what all the hipe is about with the pigs.
There has been several articles about them and I am sure as previously stated the land owners are being bombarded with people trying to try for hogs.

here in Michigan there was a bunch of hype too and it was over what probably turned out to be less than 10 total hogs statewide that all resided in one area. Everyone all of the sudden thought they were having pork for dinner. I only heard of one getting shot illegally I might add as it was shot at night while shining for deer.
