Want better groups? Hmmmm
« on: June 11, 2008, 10:06:00 AM »
I was gluing up my woodsmen and getting that perfect spin. It is interesting how a little adjustment and a wobble can go to that pretty blurred spin we love.

Then I thought heck I have never done this with my feild points and when checking I found they wobbled terribly. DOES ANYONE SPIN THEIR FIELD POINTS? Does it matter?

Of course it matters.  Arrows should spin true every time, no matter the tip.

Everytime!  If your arrow spins true and still wonder off line check the nock to make sure it spins true as well.

When I make my arrows I always put the nock on first and check for straightness - a crooked nock will cause more issues than a crooked point - then I install my point and check, the last thing I put on are the feathers.

I'm with you Terry.  I can feel a more minute wobble than I can see.  The old palm spin works well for me.

Tarz,
NEVER have I seen feild point spinnin discussed.
Those points sometimes have a blunted nipple and do not spin.

Spinning arrows on your palm works great, just be careful with the broadheads.

Yep...Pretty much a habbit to spin the arrow walking back to the shooting mark from the target.

Blunted, dented, dinged, tips were just changed out.

Both ends matter, made a simple jig with a cradle for the arrow to rest in with a point of reference to check nock and heads.

I am with others, been spinning arrows in my palm since they invented sliced bread. Good way to tell if your arrows is true as well!

You would spin it just as you would any other point.  The point doesn't have to be "pointed" to check for a true alignment.  If it's not aligned it will still wobble.  May be a tad bit harder to notice a slight wobble, but should still be done.

Wait,
Nocks do not spin on a surface you all must eyeball if is straight?

And when I spin in my hand it dies quicker...
