What's the best method for removing the old fletching from a wood arrow without harming the wood? Thanks in advance. Also, should it be resealed?

Stringdancer,
The way I do it, is to heat the feathers, close to the base, with a hair dryer on hot. Then I just start on one end, and with my fingers, peel the feather off. It seems to work fine for me, and I've been doing it that way for years. I have never hurt the wood doing it this way. I don't have to reseal, or at least I never have.

I just hold a sharp jack knife against the back of the quill and move the arrow against it. Kind of plane off the feather with the blade. There's a little knack to it, but it's quick, once learned.
