I just got back from a trip to a local shop I had never been too before. Nice shop and has lots of stuff to drool over. The surprise I mention is that he had a #90 recurve there told me to pick it up and try it. I did, surprised the heck out of me I got it to anchor, didn't strain doing it,held a couple seconds, and that was without a glove on. I had never tried pulling anything over #65 and until yesterday I hadn't shot my bows since last october. Picked the #90 up again to to prove to myself it wasn't a fluke and pulled it back again same thing smooth, was stout but not bad got it to anchor and held a couple seconds. This has me thinking a couple things one I surprised myself, and another is that mybe I don't need to work much at getting upto #80 if I can pull back that #90. Now do I need a #80 or #90 bow no but if I can shoot one and control it then yeah I'd like to have one. Now I know why some of the guys shoot #80 and #90 bows is kind of a kick in the pants to know you can pull back that much poundage and there's not let off like compounds. So there was a way cool factor there.LOL!

I came across an old Martin recurve that is 120# @ 28.  I'd have a hernia just trying to string the thing.  The limbs look like 2x4's.

Uh, before you get too excited, you might want to weigh the bow on a bow scale. Also, as someone with old shoulders and trouble in the past you might want to consider if you can actually practice with a a 80-90 pound bow for 25 - 50 shots at a time.

Just something to think about.

He already put it on a scale and yes it was a true #90@28. Actually, I was planning on using it as a workout bow and start with 10 shots each time I go out shooting but after the muscles warm up on lighter bows, and as I get better with the weight then go to 20 shots and so and so on. If I get to the point I feel completely comfortable with it I would try it hunting just to try it. Part of my surprise was I had back lower back surgery last sept and until a couple days ago I hadn't shot anything since october of last year.
