New recurve...opinions?
« on: January 01, 2007, 01:39:00 PM »
I'm selling my lefty ACS to get a new recurve. I want one that shoots about the same speed as my Border so I can use one or the other as my backup on my Alaska trip. At 61#@29.5", my Border smokes a 750grain arrow at 165-170fps. I want one that can duplicate that at 65#@29.5" or less. I have considered Schafer Silvertips (not sure about their performance though), new HEX4 limbs for the Border, Kwyk Styks, the Dalaa, and Black Swan, and am open to any new suggestions. Thanks,
Craig

The Kwyk Styk will do that. They are quick and quiet even with the static limbs. Shawn

Kwyk Styk!!!!!  Shawn has shot more bows than me,but I've been at this over 20yrs and I believe he'll agree that there isn't a better bow out there...and we've both shot a lot!!!! He has 2,and I'll have 2 soon.

They're fast, quiet and more importantly, for some reason, even at 56" like ours are simply easy to shoot! Never shot a longer one,but I bet they have the same traits.

Curt has said it. No carbon, ya do not neeed it. These bows cast an arrow as well as any I have ever shot and like Curt said, I have shot a ton of bows. Right now they are the only recurve that I shoot. Shawn

Talk to Sid at Border.  He's designed some new limbs that looks like they'll be even faster and more stable than the Hex 4s, which you know are already incredibly fast and stable.

If you like the Border so much, why not just get an extra set of limbs or another bow from Sid?

The ACS won't do that? There seems to be a fair bit of agreement out there backing up what Shawn said about carbon not needed, or even wanted for that matter.
