Long Bear recurve ?
«

I have always shot 60" bows. The new to me 1964 66" Bear Polar is new territory. What is a good starting brace height? The shelf is completely flat. Should I just stick something under the center of the rug rest?

My (limited) experience with a flat shelf is to put a small tube (1/8 inch in my case) under the rest - but - not in the center - directly over the deepest point of the grip worked the best for me.

JDice is right. For brace height, many on here are Bear experts, but starting at 7 1/2" and moving up or down in 1/4" increments until it works best for you would be a good place to start.

I was checking out the bows for sale on the "web site not to be named" and happened to run across a picture showing how someone handled the flat shelf issue.

I have never had a problem with the flat shelves on my older Bear recurves.
I use a "Bear Hair" rug and leather strike plate like the ones that 3Rivers sells.
