Dale Karch and Denny Sturgis---My Hats Off
« on: June 20, 2008, 12:32:00 PM »
I finally had a chance to watch Water Buffalo Point Blank last night, and would like to thank Denny Sturgis and Dale Karch for not only making a great video, but for doing such a great job on the tribute to Bill Baker.

Closing the tribute with the text Bill wrote at the end of one of his Basalt Warrior videos was an absolute touch of class, and it really showed Bill’s sense of humor (I think I was on one or two of those Bataan Death Marches in the Basalt myself!).

Last, but not least, knowing that the island is now a fishing destination only, it was great to see the Honey Hole one last time. Man there were some monster bulls in THAT part of the island! I have a photo of one bull that was covered in dried gray mud. He looks more like a rhino than a buffalo.

Seeing the Honey Hole and the beaches and all the other great places on the island brought back some great memories, and made me want to plan a return to Australia in the worst way. This time for monster boar!

Dale and Denny-------great job, and thanks!

Rik,
Thanks to you I am going to have to check this video out... besides your recommendation here, I really enjoyed the presentation that was given at the ITB banquet... Someday maybe the island will open up again, and I will be first in line!

Thanks Rik! That means a lot coming from a good friend of Bill's.

I was lucky enough to hunt Melville again last year and took my biggest buff to date in the Honey Hole again with Brad Kane and Don Thomas. I can't believe it's all gone.

Let's get together sometime.

Got the DVD a few days ago. Excellent stuff, highly recommended. My favorite part is Denny's last bull hunting. Just I have a question: We can see how Denny shoots 2 arrows (one at each side of the buffalo) but at the end there's a total of 3 arrows. I guess Denny used an extra finishing shot or just  it was used as a "penetration test".

Great video.

Pucci, the third shot is on video, but the camera swings to the bull. If you listen you can hear the arrow cracking ribs. Glad you enjoyed the show.
