Dyeing wool ?
« on: June 24, 2008, 08:09:00 PM »
Bought a neat,100% wool jacket I want to use for hunting, but the color is a rather bright, forest green.Anyone ever try overdyeing something like this to subdue or darken the color ? If I use lukewarm water with Ritz dye, should I worry about it shrinking too much ?

You might not believe me but this is what I did w/ walmart paint to my green Gallatin columbia wool. I have ha it for years, & have not been happy w/ the green color. Well i took care of that. Smell is gone, very little stiffness.

Do you mean "forest" (pine tree) green?????

Why bother?????       I killed more than a few deer, and an 85# coyote (at 7 yards) from the ground wearing a "forest" green jacket and pants from Johnson's Woolen Mills.I just look like a little pine tree sitting there

Yep,I agree that the deer won't mind the color, but it's pretty bright and I'll also use it for turkey and waterfowl.

Generally wool absorbs light so it doesn't show up to deer like cotton or synthetics do.   Pat
