Bad to the Bone

My hunting buddy Vance shot this boar, what we didn't know was my other friend shot this boar the year before  and lost it.
 

This boar was shot with a 80lb compound in the face.

The boar had no sign that he was ever injured, except when Vance shot it, he would only turn to his right.
 

I was with Eddy when he shot this boar the year before, he told me he shot a big boar right in the face and it ran off like a unicorn with the arrow sticking out in front of him.

Can you believe how much bone was created to surround the broadhead
   

We did not even know it was shot until we boiled the scull out,  then we saw the shaft in his face, so we cleaned it in hydrogen peroxide.

Outstanding pig. Needless to say, Vance's shot was better than your other friend's attempt. You guys keep posting pics like this and I'll have to start looking for a job in Cali...NORTHERN Cali that is

How old do you think this guy is, had no teeth and a huge bone growth on his jaw.

What do you mean no teeth, that one on the right jaw bone looks pretty mean to me.
I personally would not use a bow on these critters. A pocket knife would be more of a challenge.

Yea, he can still hook-ya  with his right, but he could only gum ha on the left.

They had a video at the big Harrisburg, PA sportsman show at a outfitter's booth of hunting hogs...I recall one guy with a heavy compound shooting at a hog rushing him head on...and the arrow (no lie) bounced right off his head and came back at the guy... I stayed to watch that footage 2x to make sure.

Amazing critters! Only ever got to shoot at ONE and hunted them 3 times...they're a hoot! And spookey!

King, I am not familiar with YOUR hogs out there...but look at all the 'dinosaur' characteristics in that bone! Man he is absolutely scary looking..I bet he was formidable looking in the flesh, wasn't he?

I would bet he was way over 10...maybe 15?

I want to ask you something I've asked lots of folks about here....and never gotten a satisfactory answer.

We have conservatively speaking a thousand plus hogs on our land at any one time...we also have lots of bobcats, coyotes, and gators preying on them. We roam all over the property, thick open you name it..we've walked it.

We have found perhaps a dozen hog skulls in places other than our gutpile over the years. Where are all the hogs going that die of old age on our land? It's a puzzle to me...we find deer all the time...but hogs are a rarity. Are they kind of like elephants? Go to some central, out of the way place to pass? Maybe thats not the case for you as your cover looks very open all over.
