vibrating MA3
« on: July 03, 2008, 11:40:00 AM »
Im getting some vibration after the shot in my MA3.  It was worse but I adjusted the brace height and it got better but not all the way gone.

It might be the string since it sounds like a plucked guitar string.  I am using hush puppies.  I would think that this would be enough to dampen string vibration.

the only other thing i can think of is my arrow weight.  I am only shooting 9pgi.  I would have thought this would have been sufficient but any inquities would be appreciated.

Are your arrow nocks to tight on the string? That's the problem I've been having lately...seems to cuse significant bow noise/vibration...

I found that 8 1/2- 8 5/8" brace height to be the sweet spot on my MA. Also is your string ff?
I shot dacron on mine to try it and it had alot of vibration. Some early MAs would not take ff.
I had the best luck using rubber cat wickers for silencers.

Don't be afraid to take the BH higher.  Different shooters require different settings.  I run all 5 of my SA's and MA's up at 9 inches.  It really quiets them down and despite what others may tell you, the spreed loss due to a 1/2 inch higher BH is immeasurable.

I raised mine to almost 8 3/4 and shoot 29" GT with 145 up front,is pretty quiet too.
Another trick I saw not long ago from here Im doing is I took and cut beaver balls in half, 12" down from tips and then went another 3 " below and installed some of the widow silencers. No vibration and is very quiet

i have it just under 9 inches now, it is fast flite, and I may have to change out the string silencers as Doug mentioned.  This is a 64" bow too and that could be the reason for needing the higher brace but that is not the topic of this thread, maybe I should try higher.

It seems to only be string vibration.

I was in Nixa earlier this year and Rodger told me about a bow someone could not get quiet. It was the string itself, not broken just a bad string.

Have you tried moving your silencers either cloer to the riser or closer to the limb tips? If the silencers are not in the sweet spot for that particular bow they not be having the desired effect.

All I shoot are 64" MA's with brace height of 8 5/8" and they are always quiet. I use two pair of spiders and theyare set at 7" & 9" from where the string contacts the limb. This is where I found the best place for them to be producing the quietest. The only other thing I do to all of my bows now is install a pair of Simms Ultra Limb savers. These really stop vibration. Place them half on/half off the very end of fadeouts.
