Feather shapes
« on: July 07, 2008, 04:12:00 PM »
What are some advantages and disadvantages to different types of feather shapes?
I'm a big fan of 5" shields myself...and I don't really like the banana's, JMO

i like 4 5" shield feathers out of my lonbows. Why? Because out of a lot of comparison work i find these shoot the best of any other combo tried. For recurves like 3 parobolic 5 1/2 feather. For the same reason tried all combo's and found tis to be the best for me!!

Is a good discussion on various feather shapes, sizes, noise associated, etc...

I use a 4.5" shield, mostly. I actually use the feel of the back corner of the fletch in the corner of my mouth as part of my anchor. Messes with me a little to go parabolic!

I have become a fan of the 4 inch parabolic 4 fletch for hunting, it is very quiet compared to the 3 fletch 5 or 5.5 inch feather in flight!!!
