160 Grain Snuffer Sharpening Question

Guys I recently bought some 160 Snuffers and am looking for the sharpeners for them.  I looked at both 3R and Kustom King and they sell similar kits.  The difference is that 3R says theirs changes the angle to 18 degrees, and Kustom King changes it to 24 degrees.  Is this a misprint, and if not which angle is better in your experiences?  Thanks in advance.  Mark

most likely a misprint. I believe they are from the same mfg.

You asked, "which angle is better in your experiences?" Neither! Actually the best is leaving the angle like it comes from the factory. Go get yourself a new 10" Mill Bastard file, a black Hard Arkansas stone and an ceramic stick and use the angles provided by the blades. Really, Snuffers are easy to sharpen without special tools.

I agree with above, leave the original angle.
I use the DMT Duosharp Diamond Sharpener to sharpen my Snuffers and it gets them shaving sharp!

File and Crock Sticks is all that is needed for these and most 3 blade heads...

Get a nice big file and those 160's are easy to sharpen.

I have one of those "snuffer tamer" POC (piece of ...) Save your money and do as everyone said here. The flat angle on the snuffers is plenty sharp enough of an angle and will put a huge hole in the oil pan of any big game in N. America. You'll be very happy with the results come fall.

PS - it doesn't hurt to chisel the point a little too

It's a 16" Nicholson.  I have a feeling I got it off Amazon.  Just google 16" Nicholson and you'll find a few places.  You can also call your local hardware store; they usually don't carry one this big, but they'll probably order it for you.

I have a 16" nicholson mill bastard file, a gerber wet stone & 2 pieces of leather one with jewelers rough (powder) and I shave hair off my arms.

I use the Snuffer Tamer from Tru Angle with leather strop and shave hair every time. $24.00 for the kit. Will last forever.

This evening I took an 8" Grobet file and held it horizontally across two blades at a time while grasping the Snuffer with the other(I would recommend a glove for this!) rotating the head every swipe.I marked the blades using permanent marker to check progress.Once I had a good level amount of steel taken of I took it to the rough side of my Indian stone that I use with my KME jig(also rotating every swipe and marking for progress).Holding the head and pushing the way Charlie Lamb does in his sharpening tutorial(check mamber videos).I then moved on to my transluscent arkansas stone I also got from KME using it the same way.The result,a polished razor edge as sharp has my 2blades that shaves hair easily and took 10 minutes using the equipment I alreay have.My advice would be get a good file and an arkansas stone and have at it.I for one can't wait for the oppurtunity to push one of these big ol' Snuffers through a whitetail before long.
