One of the funniest things I've seen in the woods was Dan Quillian going into the woods on our club in south GA, wearing a fake fur jacket he'd come up with somewhere, that was made up of multicolored strips. He was planning to stand on a stump that evening, and it blended well. He didn't own any camo. He was tall and kind of gangly with age, and the sight of him in that coat with longbow in hand is still stuck in my mind. A true mutant.
I think camo works better if you mix up patterns. I use it or not, depending on my mood and whether I have anything dull enough handy that's not camo. I shotgunned a turkey once in bluejeans, but I cheated some by sitting on the ground and raking some leaves over my legs. I do have to cover my gray/white beard, though- I've had deer stare at it when ground hunting. And you can get headnets that aren't camo- I have one.
