Can I leave my bow strung ?

Another newbie question,

I shoot every day and unstring my bow at night. Is this necessary?  Seems like I'm wearing out the top loop of my string that way .

2nd that. I use to unstring my bow every time. Got a custom bow made and the bowyer told me I'll do more damage unstringing it than I will keeping it strung. More chance of hurting the bow when you string and unstring it.

The bow I'm currently using stays strung, whether that is 4 days or 4 months. When I switch bows I always unstring and hang the bow  horizontally on two pegs.

I have had bows strung for years(glass)and they have never lost a pound. As said above if they are gonna be left where it can get hot unstring them and if it is gonna get to hunt, don't leave them there at all. Shawn

I agree with all of the above but there is one situation where I seem to have to unstring my bow every day when hunting.

Many provincial regulations are worded such that it is illegal to travel with an uncased bow in a vehicle after hunting hours. That includes any truck, etc. as well as all terrain vehicles.

I shoot longbows up to 68" and when I hunt accessible areas (such as for deer) I have to unstring, then case, then drive back to wherever I'm staying. It's even riskier to unstring or string bows when your fingers are frozen and it's dark.

I was wondering if anyone knows a solution.

I leave them strung also.  I have a Bamboo Longhunter that has been strung since 1996 and it hasn't lost anything.

how about selfbows? i have an osage longbow that is only 2 days old. =) (first one) can i keep it strung all the time? or will that make it follow the string too much?

I usually unstring mine everyday, but after reading this question a couple of times here, I am rethinking and will probably keep mine strung, especially since I shoot more often now that archery season is coming up...
One question,
I have a horizontal bow rack, should I hang my strung bows horizontal by the string or by the limbs?
I have seen several pictures of both here and wondered what is best.

I also keep my bow strung during training session but must "make them Safe" at the end of the day.  My wife sewed me up some cloth cases and I just place the bow in the case.  I also Made a wood case the the bows are placed into for safety. It has handles and locks.

I really don't find it that difficult to string and unstring my bows, and I shoot at least one daily, sometimes several.  Been doing it for more than 40 years.  I use a bow stringer and haven't damaged a bow yet.  Consensus seems to be that it doesn't hurt to leave them strung, but there is also some value to practicing stringing and unstringing a bow.  During hunting season, one can't always do it under the best of controlled conditions.

I bought myself a case from 3 rivers. You can leave the bow strung with the quiver riding on the outside. Helps to protect your bow and also is much safer. Sometimes it wasn't so easy trying to string my bow in the dark on a morning hunt.

According to good ol' Wingnut from Dryad Bows, you never want to leave an all-natural bow strung.

As he puts it "if you're resting, the bow should be resting"  The bow WILL develop more follow...

I only unstring mine when they travel, but then again I shoot my recurve and the longbow everyday at least a FEW shots each
