I hunt from the ground, it's just more fun for me, I use improvised blinds from natural cover. You need to be a little more careful of movement and wind direction when you are on the ground.

When by myself I favor treestands but the ground blind is a great place when I want to take the family out.  Sort of covers up all of the fidgeting that my five year old just cant seem to suppress.

I kind of let the topography, which to a great extent determines how thermals work during my stand time.

Now that I am older,  my love for being mobile, dictate that I hunt the ground about 60 percent of the time taking to the trees the remainder.

Falling to the ground because of bad foot placement, is much shorter journey than  a fall from twenty plus feet.  I have to admit the shot angles are much better on the ground, with a greater number of pass through  occurring when I shoot from the ground.

I would love to hunt from the ground but here in south Louisiana it is almost impossible to be successful as a bowhunter unless you climb. The woods are thick with leaves and palmettoes making a stalk quite noisy.  And because of the misquitoes, snakes, spiders, and other bugs it is not easy staying still in one spot on the ground for too long.

trooper, I hunt out of natural ground blinds in south louisiana all the time, and as far as being succesful, I passed on one shot and missed another shot(both within 15 yards), and that was all in the four total days I bowhunted last year

Ian,
What's your average number of kills per season?  It may be fun to some but I bet those that bowhunt from the ground in south Louisiana don't have much venison in the freezer.

i find that whenever i am up in a tree i see an animal that i want to stalk but cannot because of my position in the tree.  I also sometimes like to chase after game after I have shot it if it is wounded and needs to be finished.

Ground only for me anymore, I like to mix squirrel hunting in with my deer hunting, and stump shooting, and exploring, and bird watching, and just enjoying being in the woods. I would probably get more shots out of my tree stand, at least I used to, but still hunting, mixed with improvised ground blinds is so much more relaxing.

last year did more ground hunting, I do like to use both tactics. I feel you really don't have to go high to get a deer.

The older I get the more I hunt from the ground. I sit behind a tree or in a blind made from sticks. Jawge

Like most alot of folks here, I done most of my hunting from trees. But the last couple of year I been gravitating toward ground hunting more and more.
Theres just something about ground hunting that appeals to me.
