I had the chance to bowfish with Curt and Gary Kosteczko yesterday. First I want to thank Gary for being a gracious host and also for being a great guide.(Curt should be along with a few pics.) I started out with Curt and after about 5 hours I had taken one shot, with Gary scoring on 5 fish and Curt 1. Curt did get me that shot and it was about 8ft. and I flat out blew it!! Soon after Curt had to leave and Gary and I decided to give it another go, well I now know who to guide me next time!
Gary had me into fish right away and gave me some pointers as well. I made a nice stalk with Gary guiding me thru it and than missed a shot at about 8 yards, as Gary said it was no gimme but I should of made it. We than moved up river and again Gary spotted some tailing fish and let me have the honors again, another good stalk and another missed fish, no matter I was having a blast and Gary's place where we were fishing is gorgeous. It was getting late but we spotted another fish down river and again the stalk was on, this one was both on land and in the water, the last 15 yards across about knee deep water to a nice fish(10-12#s) lying in a little rapid with his dorsal and tail exposed. I was afraid to get much closer, so at about 10 yards I let it fly. I was just short and the arrow skipped into the fish but not enough to penetrate enough for the barbs to get a good hold, the fish stripped a bit of line and it pulled out and he was gone. That was it for the day other than a nice walk back to the vehicles and some good conversation with a new friend!! Thanks Gary and Curt, hoping Tim can make it next time and let this guy with a bum knee canoe a few spots!! Now that I have a clue what I am doing, I will be into more fish next time!! Have Fun!!
