Crow Creek Blackfeather - what a smoker
« on: July 16, 2008, 11:08:00 AM »
I traded for a Crow Creek Blackfeather over the weekend. It is 62" and 52# @ 28" and man this thing smokes an arrow.  I will have to play around with the brace height and silencers to get rid of the "boing" but I wanted to post a few pics.

Thanks for the trade BRITTMAN!!!

I won't be able to see the pics until I get home tonight, but I love the Black Feather.  I've had 3 of them and just recently picked up the third one.  Here's a couple pics of the riser and the limb.  Cocobolo riser with Birdseye Maple stripe and Curly Maple Limbs.

Start with BH around 7.5".  You'll be able to get it whisper quiet and you'll find it to be a consistently accurate shooting longbow.

They are some smooth and fast shooters for sure. Mine like a 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 inch brace height.

I was on a hunt with a large group in June and shot a lot of bows, all very nice but a couple really impressed me and one was a Crow Creek that belongs to BigRonhuntalot here on Tradgang. Very good performer and very easy to adjust to. Nice bow, congratulations.         GY

This one has a Cocobola and Bacote riser and Bacote limb veneers with bamboo cores of course.

Bill, I like those birdseye maple limbs!

Sorry Bob, Mike and I have traded quite a few bows over the past year or two.

Just twisted up a new string for it so maybe that will help with the boinging.

Barry,

My first two Black Feathers had Bocote/Cocobolo risers.  The first one had stained Actionboo limbs and the second one had Bocote veneers over Actionboo cores.  Elmer builds a sweet shooting bow.

Barry ,
catwiskers make a big diffrence on the way that bow sounds , almost silent with catwiskers . Im loving the Shrew Samurai too , its one of my  " Dream bows " now if I could shoot it like Ron does I will be in business . Elmer does make one fine looking smooth shoot bows ! Give him a call , you will be impressed with him also .

Mike, let me know the specs on that Samurai. If you find you can't shoot it well we might be able to work out a deal. Nice bow by the way!

how does the Crow Creek 'Crow Mag' compare to the Crow Creek 'Black Feather' performance wise? is one smoother, or more quiet, or faster, or can anyone really tell a difference?

Mike I'm really glad you like the Samuari. I know you don't keep a bow more than a couple weeks if you don't like it. BTW the string I made for it helped take the boing out.  Now just like a it should be.  Something about those padded loops make a huge difference.
Now if only I could shoot it as well as I shoot the Horne...  I might have to make up new arrows with a different spine to dial it in...we'll see.

I can't answer the question as all I've ever owned or shot is the Black Feather.  But if Elmer builds it, I would suspect they are very close performance wise.

I would assume the Mags are very close in all categories.I heard the limbs were very similar. The Mag looks nice and more my style with a smaller and lighter riser.I would like to try one.Had a blackfeather and it was very nice.A little heavier in mass than I like though.

I think riser size is the main difference.Thier could be other variables though.

i owned a Black Feather. it was a very very nice 3pc longbow. i sold it because of it's mass size and weight....just too much for my liking. plus i had a new T-Horn 3 pc longobw in the house.    :p

3 days ago i got in a 58" Crow Mag. it's still got that new bow syndrome going on but i can tell you right now i like it better than the Black Feather. the riser is much smaller, the grip could be a tad larger, it's smooth drawing, quiet, next to nothing for handshock, easy to point, stable, and goes from string to target in a blink of an eye.
