Newbie needs advice on strings

Hi all,

This is my first post although I've been lurking for awhile.  I am very new to Traditional Archery.  I am shooting a Martin X-200 45#@28"  I'm grouping pretty well but I'm staying within 15 yards for now.  My question is...what is a good string for the X-200?  I'm looking for something that is quieter than what is on there now.  (Flemish I think, but as I said, I'm new to this and don't really know)  I have noticed that the nocks are coming off the serving harder than they should.

Thanks in advance for any advice on strings and silencers or anything else.

reserve it or file your nocks down to fit... local guy told me to use the cheap emery files for womens nails i got lik 24 for $1 and file the inside of the nocks

Unless things have changed, the X-200 is dacron-only (B-50 or B-500).

12 strands with the right size serving will work just fine.  Most bows, expecially over-the-counter bows, go out with a "one size fits all" string and is usually way overbuilt.

heat a cup of hot water, dip the nock in it and slip it over the string and press SLIGHTLY. This is what I do if its fairly close, if not as said above reserve it with a smaller serving

Have you waxed you string? I have a montana longbow that gets alittle twangy when the string gets too dry. Brownell makes bow string wax, some people just us bees wax.

The string is thoroughly waxed.  I'm going to try dipping the ends in lacquer thinner also.  It slaps the limbs pretty good right now.  No silencers on yet.  I've got some string leeches, but I don't know if that's what I should use or not.

The x-200 should come with a endless strip.  If you went with a flemish and added silencers to the string, you should be able to eliminate most of your issues.  A standard b-50 flemish 14-15 strand with work fine.  One advantage to the flemish is the ability to adjust your brace height and that will remove a lot of noise out of the bow.
If you are having issues with the nocks, you can order a string with smaller serving size on it to help with the problem.  Let me know if you have any more questions.  I have built a couple (100,000)strings in my day:)!

to add to the confusion ive found that endless loop strings are quieter and these can still be adjusted for Brace by twisting
