Thirsty Deer
« on: July 19, 2008, 09:33:00 PM »
We are in a bit of a drought around here. The stream at my Mom's place is dried up, so we put water basins in the ground for the deer. Check out my daughter walking up to this doe.

That deer must be thirsty! You could see its indecisiveness between staying and drinking while this weird creature (to her) tried to come closer or just bolt

What I found amazing was the deer actually relaxed towards the end of the video, she looks back flicks her tail and licks her side. Very cool! Shawn

Last time I got that close to a doe I got the bejeezus scared out of me - I didn't realise she was on the otherside of the bush and came out with snorts, stomps, and a heck of an attitude.

This deer hung out a fed and drank for about 10-15 minutes. She was pretty relaxed except for the flies biting her and us. Here is a bit more.

Dry here too, the grounds all cracked and the grass is brown again.  Thankfully we have several good creeks so the deer get by, but stay close to water.  We have some that will come up and let us close (not that close).  It is funny that they can turn cagey as an old fox when deer season opens.  Funny critters.  Making memories your daughter will never forget.  That's good.

Jerry, I enjoyed that. Reminds me of when the brother in law had an A Frame up at Hemlock Farms Lords Valley Pa..[should have bought that place!] I have pictures of my kids feeding the deer when they were young [my youngest is 19 now]. They would come in 5/6 times a day and eat right out of our hands.Your daughter has grown since I saw her last at PVA. Looking foward to sending some arrows with you and Vaughn this season. You proved it though early season when it's hot hunt water.
