Down to one bow.... for a while
« on: July 20, 2008, 09:23:00 AM »
Well, it didn't take long to go from 3 bows to just one. I bought a Centaur this year and that's all I want to shoot, even after a bad day shooting, that's the bow I want to shoot the next day. My compound hasn't seen the light of day since rifle season last year, so I decided to sell it. Down to 2 bows.
My first trad bow, a 45# Martin Savannah, was a great bow to learn with, but that's been unstrung since the day my Centaur arrived. Well, my neighbor's son, whom I've known  since he was about six, is now 21 years old, holding down a job, and struggling to make ends meet with a baby girl. All in all, he's a good young man doing the right things. He's been eyeballing my Savannah since the day I brought it home. As we were standing there talking, I had a thought, and just gave it to him with a dozen 1916's, and a new glove. My daughters and wife don't shoot, so who better to pass it on to? Two bows in one day...
Well, at least my new Gamemaster will be here soon...  :bigsmyl:

My hat is off to you, Bret.  Acts of kindness like that make a big difference for a L-O-N-G time, and whether or not he becomes a trad archer, I'm convinced you made a real impact in his life.  Good on 'ya, sir!

I had a neighbor who took me fishing, hunting etc, when I was a kid in PA, when we left PA he gave us one of his rifles, I was a 270 model 721 Remington with fancy blackpowder stuff inlaid in the stock. Every single time I look at this gun which is everyday I smile and think of him and the good times we had together, so God bless you for what you did.

I had about 30 bows at one time. Down to 4. 2 ae keepers..my Firefly and my Robertson Peregrine. I am struggling to keep my Widow. I really like the bow but it sure is picky on tuning.

A great thing. You never know what seemingly "small" thing you do could change someones life, forever...

Brett,I am doing the same as you. There are so many beautiful bows out there and I use to think that I needed to try as many of them as I could. Some were really nice and some left as quick as they came.I have settled down with a Toelke Whip and we are really starting to blend right now.Excellent craftsmanship, quiet, and the arrows go where I am looking if I hold it all together. One more to get rid of, a Mahantango, and then it is just me and the Whip.
Just wanted to say that I also had a Savannah,50# @28",and that bow was a shooter.
                           Good shooting,Craig

That was a great gesture on your part, Brett....the Savannah is an expensive bow. I hope the kid appreciates it and uses it well.

IMHO, we'd all be better off for having and shooting just one bow, and maybe add in another as a backup.
