vine maple long bow

Here is a bow that I recently built for a friend. Dave is an avid hunter and uses a compound bow. Over the past year he has been hanging around our trad group and spending more and more time shooting our bows. He seems particularly enamored with the self-bows that we regularly bring to the club. I decided it’s time he took the plunge and owned his own gear. So this Saturday here is what Dave will be receiving: vine maple (spliced sister billets), 65” ntn, 50# @ 27”, elk hide handle with Strunk-style wrap, rattlesnake over rawhide backing, cocobolo tips and handle overlay, and reddish brown leather dye job. The belly was heat tempered and holds about 1.5” of reflex. He’s seems excited about owning his own long bow - I predict we’ll be seeing a lot less of his compound around the club.

That looks like one sweet bow. I think you are right, I don't think you will see much of that compound bow. Welcome to the fold!

Gordon, another beautiful bow as usual. You truely are a very gifted bowyer. Now ya got me thinking about going and digging through my VM pile. Trouble is I already have about 5 or 6 bows in the works that are only have done. Can't wait to get over that way and see some of those sweet things you are kicking out. Keenan

Keenan, everytime I look at one of your bows I'm inspired to do that much better on my next one. When it comes to craftsmanship and creativity you're right at the top of the heap. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting you soon.

That is nice! I think he'll see the "soul" in that bow, and that the wheelie bow has none.
