Sharpning Magnus 1 160 gr head

I will be shooting the Magnus 1 head, and am having Ted at Raptor mount them for me. I was wondering if there are any tips that would help this rookie sharpen these without any trouble. I have a Lansky sharpner. Also what angle do you sharpen them at  :confused:

I sharpen my Magnus II's with my Spyderco Sharpmaker at 40 deg.  Works like a charm.

I have found the Magnus easiest to sharpen out of the package by far, they already have a well ground angle on them and just a touch up gets them rockin'.

Agree with JimmyC. Don't get all agressive and change angles and stuff. Shoot them to make sure they will shoot for you and then use a fine stone to set up the very edge.... Not familiar with the Lansky, but in the neighborhood of 25 degrees should work.

I use a accusharp tool to do them,they are 10 dollars.They put a sharp jagged edge on the heads.I have shot deer turkey coyote with them,they all fell in my sight.I think magnus suggests using the accusharp.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with the Lansky type sharpening jigs.

Let me put it like this. When you jig up the broadhead try to match the angle of the factory grind. Just a little steeper than that and you come to a shaving edge in a heartbeat.

Accusharp- just a few strokes (maybe a strop or two on cermaic sticks or leather) and they'll shave hair. Shooting them for 15 years. Easiest thing in the world to sharpen. Keep chap stick on them during the season and they'll keep the edge.

Of course- the chapstick does not mean wipe the broadhead on your lips!          :D

The 40 deg setting on my Sharpmaker means "inclusive" (hope that is the right word), which means 20 degrees each side, so if you sharpen to get it between 20 deg and 25 deg angle, you will be doing fine.

The 160's are very easy to sharpen with the straight edge and wide blades and the good factory grind, as said you don't need to take much metal off.

I use zwickey broadheads and normally use the 25 degree slot.  With the lansky I can get them extremely sharp.  Was never very good at file sharpening.
