Nock Question - How loose????
«

I've been using fastflight 18 strand 3 bundle strings with #4 nylon serving for years with no problems. I now have a new bow that came with an xcel 2 bundle 20 strand string with crown serving .026 . I primarily shoot tapered cedar arrows with classic index nocks. Some of my nocks are so loose the arrow will fall off of the string if pointed down and some need a slight bump ( which is what I thought was good ). How loose can the nocks be and not cause problems. Thanks for any input. Drew

I have had a few dry fires
over the years because of nocks too loose they do not stay on the string when pointed down. That's the only problem I've had since I get great flight if they stay on the string.
I dip the nock end in hot water for 10-15 seconds and slightly squeeze to attain the desired fit.
Again, watch out for dry fires.

Use boiling water as Blackhawk advises and dip only the "ears" of the nock in the water. Easy enough to fix.

I like my nocks to be loose enuff to NOT hold the bow, but be able to stay on if I hold the bow and let the arrow hang

Nocks can be as loose as you feel comfortable shooting. Take for instance speed nocks, they do not snap onto the string and WILL NOT hold the arrow on the string. I would re-serve your string before altering your nocks in anyway.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll try serving a little dental floss over the serving to add a bit to the diameter and adjust the tightness of the nocks. Drew
