I just took my hunter safety course too. I looked into the online test but two factors stood out against it. One, at least in maryland it is more expensive to take the online test then to take the course and two your son will still have to go to a semi course where they do some hands on teaching/ making sure that he understands what he was tested on I.e zones of fire, carrying a weapon, live firing. I decided I'd rather go take the class in person where its significantly cheaper and its over with in two days instead of having to wait for the next "field day".

My son took it online last year, I'll "dig" around and see if I can find anything for you.

the study guide is on the right side of the page, the drop down buttons. if he cant access it online, you can print out each page. Take the practice test first so he knows what to loook for. They have some "tricky" questions the way they word it.

I had to take hunters safety a few years ago to hunt in Colorado. I would suggest going to the class instead of on line. The interaction among the kids and adults is as educational as the course itself.
Shakes, Sit through the class yourself too. I learned a lot of interesting stuff when I took it.
