« on: August 01, 2008, 02:00:00 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone flown with thermacells/refills. I know they would be a no no in carry-ons but what about checked baggage?

thanks Sean

I did not bring the propane tanks back from bear hunting as everyone told me you could not have them at all....even in checked baggage. But when I asked at the airline ticket desk they said it was not a problem.I told them it was the same tank of propane for cordless hair driers and they said it was fine.Women put them in thier check bags all the time..She said you probley should not try to travel with 30-40 of them. But a few are fine in your check bags....bowdoc

I flew from Chicago to Edmonton this spring - no problem.  On the way back from Edmonton they made all hunters take out their propane and leave it.  They were getting a real large collection of cylinders - makes me wonder what they would do with all of them?  Throw them out or is there a secondary market for the cylinders?

I went from Atlanta to Saskatchewon with 3 refills in my checked bag. I don't know if it was ok or they just didn't catch me  :-)

Might be able to just phone the airline and find out from them directly.

I like Biggies way just throw them in with your checked bags.
Calling the airline may give you an okay on the phone but they may have a different answer at the airport.
That happened to me on a flight with a gps the airline web site clearly said that gps's were permissable to use aboard flight but when I asked they said no.
