Hi from Palmer Alaska
« on: August 03, 2008, 04:27:00 AM »
Just wanted too say hello. My name is Rick and I'm originally from Michigan. I live near Palmer Alaska with my wife Tracy and our 21 month old son Gunther. I recently returned to archery after 20 years away and it has quickly become a passion of mine.(The reason I left boils down too stubbornness and not wanting to hunt with a wheel gun)I plan on hunting moose, sheep and mountain goat this fall with a 50# recurve, If I get a moose early I may add a bear hunt as well.

Hi Rick, I spent a couple of weeks in and around Palmer last year sheep hunting. My guide, John Williams introduced me to a friend of his Bob Woolsey that also is a traditional bow hunter. It was a pleasure to hunt with John and meet Bob while I was there. Palmer isn't all that big of a place so you may know one or both of them?

Good luck on your hunts this fall! I envey you! Wish I was able to move to Alaska from Michigan when I was younger. Where abouts were you from in Michigan?

Welcome, Rick.

I have been thinking about moving into the Palmer\\Wasilla area myself for several reasons, including hunting the critters you mentioned. Good luck on your hunts!

Wow thanks for all the welcomes lets see.....
Jack sorry I'm a bit of a lone wolf and don't know the gentleman you mentioned. Where abouts did you hunt sheep? I'll be hunting hunters creek/ lake George area for goat this year but didn't hit the draw for sheep so I have too drive for sheep.(I live about 4 miles from hunter creek)Born in L'anse area lived on south Liard near silver creek till I was in junior high the midland Michigan out homer road then west branch.

Chuck, actually thinking of moving up your way myself

Steve, thanks man!

John, my father in law loves too go by your place he has too go see the muskox every time he comes up. Quick question you have geese or cranes in your fields? Ever consider waterfowl with a bow?

Runamuck the Deshka was closed this year not enough fish!

Longbowray you visited one of my favorite rivers during the worst fishing season I can remember. If you ever want to come back I'll take you fishing and make up for the goose egg.

Rick, we backpacked in above Jim Creek. You could look down on Palmer from where we camped. With that area going to a draw this year and only four of the forty permits available to non-residents I guess I was lucky to be able to hunt it when I did.

Good luck on the goat hunt. I'll be headed to BC in less than six weeks looking for one too.

You just had too poke at a open wound didn't ya. I used to hunt 2 drainage's over not far from metal creek. You hunted less than 10 miles from my house and could have seen my place had you known where too look.

Sorry Rick, I know what it's like to loose a favorite hunting place. At least there is some chance you will draw a permit in the unit one year and be able to hunt your spot again.

Rather hit the one that's in my back yard! been trying for years, just kills me that I have one of the highest sheep population densities in Alaska literally in my back yard and I have too drive at least an hour to hunt much lesser areas. Heck I saw sheep out the bedroom widow this am but I'm driving 6 hours too hunt them.
