Field points hanging up in my target bag
«

I am having a problem with my field points being hard to remove from my target bag. The edge of the glue on field point is a little wider than the shaft diameter, and acts like a barb when I remove the arrow. I am using the correct size for the shafts. Is the problem with my taper. If done correctly will the diameters match? I feel like they are tearing my target when I remove the arrow.
Thanks

I had the same problem with glue ons. Never did fix it though bacause I started using the brass screw ons from 3-Rivers. If you are shooting a 125 gr. 11/32 point I thimk they're the way to go. They don't hang up, don't have to worry about them comin' off when the glue gets cold and I think they make the arrows look better too. But that's just my oppinion

Try the next size down in point size , like go to 5/16" if you are shooting 11/32" shaft. This way the collar of the point will be smaller than the shaft

Ted Fry that sounds good, is it a suggestion or have you tried it? Great idea.

Bob... Ted's idea is just common sense. It works just fine as long as you can find a smaller head in the weight you want.
I'll bet Ted can hook you up with just the right field points.

I have the exact same problem. Try wiggling it a lot before you pull it out. It should make the hole a little wider.

I'm going with Ted's great idea. I believe I have some smaller points in my box. I just felt I was tearing my target up everytime I pulled an arrow. I was beginning to think my taper was at fault. Thanks to all.

You can also take a file or grinder and bevel the back edge of the points...usually only lose about 2 grains weight.

I do this for 3-D targets as well , it leaves more of a sloped shoulder on the shaft so that the point does not hang up, just lightly sand the shoulder of the taper to roll the transition.
I dont worry about it with broadheads but it does work well with the field and target points.
