whats the best tab ?
« on: August 07, 2008, 06:12:00 PM »
Lost my tab yesterday, a black leather two layer one. So I shot yesterday with an older tab that I had that has a slick hair surface, its kinda to small for my fat fingers. Anyhow  I found my black one this mourning and my arrows were hitting left (I'm right handed) which I think means bad release, shot with the other tab and I'm right on. So now I want to buy me a good tab, there's a lot of choice at three rivers. Could you guys help me narrow it down ?
Thanks, John

This summer I ordered two cavalier tabs from 3 rivers. The elite and elite lite both are excellent tabs. The elite lite is half the price and every bit as good as the more expensive elite. I have always been a glove shooter and had many times tried to convert to tabs but never found one that I really liked until now.
For me I removed the finger seperator as it did not feel comfortable then took out the scissors and trimmed the corners by rounding them off. What I like best about this tab is how it places the string in the exact same place for every shot for more consistant shooting.

I shoot with the Elite lite and have the same one I bought 3yrs. ago. They wear like iron and work so well.

Hey, I have one of those. It works great. Cordovan tabs are my favorite. They're tough as nails and slick...Two Fletch (Eagle's Flight Archery)has some good cordovan tabs...I got one of his for 'bout ten bucks...been shootin it for a year and a half and its not worn at all...Buy a few...they tend to sprout wings and fly away...

I love the three rivers calf hair tab.  Just order a new one a few days ago.  It will fit your fingers great.  Extremely smooth and durable.  It becomes a part of my hand when i shoot and sometimes my buddies have to remind me to take it off "no lie"

Saunders Pak tab. 100% water proof, and it comes with differant layers and you put it together yourself so you can make it as thick or thin as you like also the finger spacer can be aded or left out. For me there is no other tab. Also it wont wear out for years.

You could go to Tandy leather ,Hobby Lobby or any well stocked "hobby store" and for little money get a piece of leather from which you could make an endless supply of tabs. I have found I prefer the very thinnest leather, better feel and very consistent release or "loose".

brian here,
I love the black widow tabs.  It takes a day or two to get used to the fingers on it, but once you do they are awesome.  I have only used the super leather tab because they sell it here in town.  I will admit that it wears out kinda fast compared to what I have heard about cordovan.  I want to try the widow cordovan tab, but I don't have the $30 after shipping to drop on a finger tab right now.  Tough times for a finish carpenter.

I experimented yesterday, I took the outer layer of leather off my old tab and replaced it with seal skin. Man I'm liking that, the string slides off that seal skin slick as a whistle. Next time I get to Anchorage (I hate going to anchorage) I'll pick up the cordovan tab from Alaska bow hunters supply.

Thanks,  John

I save the tops from worn out irrigation boots (the rubber type not PVC). I just trace my favorite tab on to them and cut out the new ones (with my wife's sewing scissors).  The material protects my fingers well, is not effected by weather and is slick enough to help promote a clean release. Just don't let your wife catch you using her scissors!

3Rivers sells a Cordovan Tab made by Bateman that is second to none. They are $10.95 in the most recent catalog. The right hand order number at 3Rivers is 5089X the left hand is 5088X.This tab is suade backed and has a rubber finger separator. I have one I've been shooting for three years and it is still going strong and I shoot at least three or four times a week.Good luck.
