Quick Question about Arroow Weight/Hogs
« on: February 23, 2007, 03:40:00 PM »
Just got me a new set up. I'm shooting 59@28. I was wondering if 455 grains of arrow weight would be decent for hogs. I know the bow weight is enough, just wondering about the arrow since I dont know too much about that. Justin

I would think you will be fine.  I shot my first hog with a wood arrow that weighed about 430 grains.  This was out of a 47lb. bow.  I did not get a complete pass through, but killed him within 30 yards or so.

That's about 7 1/2 grains per pound.  Really light.
I shoot 58# and a 678 grain arrow.  I would think a min. of about 550 grains for your setup.  JMO

I agree that they are a little light. No doubt it will take a hog. The problem is you might not be getting all you can from your bow.
Most bowyers like from 8 to 10 grains per pound of bow weight in the arrows. I know some that want to quote speed  will go as low as 6 grns per pound not me.

Ok. I'm shooting Carbon Express Heritage Arrows. Cut at 30". I believe that would make it 330 grains without a tip. I was going to start using Muzzy 125gr 2-blades, but would it be a good idea to put something heavier up front? Suggestions welcome...
