One is a lefty Herters Perfection #50 52inch and the other is a little righty Black Hawk Wasp #40
they were totaly wrapped in camo tap and limb covers so they are sticky ! Could somebody bring me up to speed on these manufacturers ? Are these bows from the 60's-70's. I am going to make new strings ,clean 'em up and then pass them on to a new adult shooter and a kid who needs a heaver bow. ps only $25 with a pile of old 2018 arrows.
I really don't know anything about these makers so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Great finds, Have heard of Herters, don't know much about the Black Hawk. Post on trad history/collecting site. Will find someone there with the info you are looking for.

The date of manufacture is embedded in the Herters serial number.
Killdeer~insert 50 cents for another hint!

the serial #520471021 so what year is that? What a pretty bow it is ...rosewood riser and kinda mustard color backing. the decal is like brand new it must have been covered up the day he bought it. I am in my last year of nursing school so I just blew my last allowance on these bows so I can't afford 50 cents!

The Blackhawk will have a number on it like 657, indicating that it was made in June of 1957, for example. Good bows, congrats on your find.

OK, you called me out, and off the top of my head, your bow was made in 1971. Some of those numbers tell what month, and what number bow of that month this one is (52nd of production in the month of April?). I only learned enough to tell what year it was made.
Killdeer ~you can owe me.
