String ?
« on: August 11, 2008, 05:25:00 PM »
I am shooting a Martin Recurve. I am just starting out so forgive me if this is a stupid question. When I string my bow the string always lays flat on the the string groove. After I am done shooting the string has afew twist in it where it rest up against the groove. Is this normal? Could just be that I'm anal. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you may be untwisting the string when you unstring your bow.To have proper brace height you may have to twist the string. The twist won't hurt, but untwisting it will make you loose brace height. You may want to leave your bow strung once you get proper brace height. I leave my Martin Hunter strung all the time with no problems. Just hang it by the string on two nails or pegs as long as it hangs straight. (paralell to the wall.)I hope this helps, if you need help on brace height shoot me an e mail.

Are you saying that when you unstring the bow, some twists/bunching up occurs near one of the limb tips?  If so, it means that you have the string twisted too much.  I.e., your string was too long to start with and you had to twist it too much to reach the appropriate brace height.  If you have a flemish twist string, can untwist the string and redo one of the loops, making the string about an inch or so shorter.  Or buy/make another string that will be about the same length as you have now but with fewer twists in it.  Hope that makes sense.  Good luck.
