Ok im new here and new to archery..
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:10:00 PM »
Hi everyone I am new to archery and I am trying to get a recurve Bow.
I am 15.
I have 80$ to work with.
People recommended a 30#-35# bow on another forum.
I was looking at a Bear Scout Bow 30#-35#.
If anyone has a bow for 80$ or less that meets this specifications and are willing to sell or trade please hold it for me.
Is anyone willing to give me some newbie advice on archery or somthing that will help me out THANKS
Oh and I have a 15# bow  :scared:   and is probly a hazard to shoot, so im trying to find another bow that will be a step up from it.  :saywhat:

Post this on the classifieds and while you are there have a look around.  Lots of good deals.  Best advice I can give is join a club or find some good shooting buddies with experience. ( did someone say hang out with old guys?)

Dillon,
Where in Texas are you?  If you are around Austin shoot me an email and we will see what we can do about getting you started.

Welcome,
I have a 14 y/o neighbor that I hunt with.  We religously hit the weekend yard/garage sales.  You live in Texas (a hunter's paradise) and I would imagine there are some good bows in garages just looking for a new owner.  Look to see that they have no cracks, twists and proper weight for you.  And work the seller, if he is a hunter, knows your excitement, and your budget, he's sure to come to meet your budget. We've found a pretty nice Ben Pearson for $20 and Bear for $80 for him. Keep an eye open on TG classified too.
WELCOME to TG.

I saw a 40 pound Ben Pearson Colt in the classifieds. Might be a bit heavy for starters, and you should check out the condition and the seller, but 65 bucks to your door looked like a good thing to look at. I bought a Colt in 1970 or so, and had it refinished a couple-three years ago. Love it.

Welcome Dillon!! I have tons of extra arrows and probably in your spine range. I could send you a few when you know what bow you get.

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet the eye dominance thing. It is a bit debatable but some think you should shoot according to your eye dominance. If you've never shot a bow much before you might consider it. If you are right handed and right eye dominant, you won't have an issue. Do you know how to find out?

yes b.glass i am right handed but it is a hundred times easier to shot a left handed bow so i modified my fifteen pound right handed bow so i can shoot more comfortobly.. i guess its because my eye dominance.
and i think i might be getting a bow sooner than i thought and those arrows are looking good right now
