I am going to be in KC this weekend. Other than Cabala's, is there any really good Traditional stores to look up?

Thanks!
Dan

check the sponsor's list, give Mike @ the Nocking Point a call.  He's about 30-40 minutes NW of Cabelas.  Great shop, and Mike is a first class guy to deal with.

When you leave Cabelas, go across the street, and eat at "Famous Dave's".   Then go to the Nocking Point.

Irish is right. Don't waste Your time at " Aurther Bryants " unless You go Downtown to the original.

Mike is a great Guy to deal with!!

A bit off topic, but are the stockyards still downtown? when I was a kid we went down there and had a great steak dinner.

The stockyards are no longer there, probably not in operation since the late 60's. You're telling your age Dano! Still plenty of good steaks around though.  Ben

Like Ben said Dano the stockyards are gone but the " Golden Ox " is still there. I'm getting hungry.

Ben, did You get in on the Bear Hunt?

Not yet, Gene my hunting buddy wants to moose hunt this fall and he's trying to set it up. I want to go in the worst way but, with the hog hunt in Feb. and the moose hunt in the fall I don't know if I can talk Shirley into letting me bear hunt too.  Ben

My wife is from that town.  I'll have to check out this nocking point next time I visit.

Famous Daves are a dime a dozen, it is worth the drive downtown for authentic BBQ at the original Arthur Bryants.  Wash it down with a frosty mug of boully.  There is nothing better.

Shirley seemed very enthusiastic when I told her I was trying to get you out of town for a week in June. Something about she always enjoys it when you’re gone because the air in the house seems to be fresher.    :saywhat:    I’m not quite sure what she was talking about but I have my suspicions.    :help:

Dano140,

Basspro is in KC also I35 and 119th street but I prefer Cabela’s. Knocking Point is a good place to go for traditional gear and Mike is a great guy to deal with.

If you don't want to go to Famous Dave's and you don't want to drive to Arthur Bryants, just head east on State Avenue a few miles and try Wyandotte BBQ.  Not much for atmosphere, but the bbq is great.  Jim

You're right Jim the BBQ there is good and they have super fries. Rosedale is my other favorite same as Wyandotte not much atmosphere but, great BBQ just the way it was meant to be!  Ben

Cabelas is nice to visit and see the stuff but if you want to get trad gear go see Mike at The Nocking Point. And, as you drive through the town of Tonganoxie, get some BBQ at Daniels. Their sauce won 1st place at the Royal a few years back.
You might want to give Mike a call as he goes to events on weekends sometimes.

Also Bass Pro.  Call Mike at Nocking Pt. first, he may be on the road with his trailor/merchandise. I also agree with Roger's Sporting Goods- in some ways, one of the best outdoor "secrets" of the area.  I have bought numerous items at literally half the cost of the big guys.  Steve Rogers gives amazing deals!!   It is an hour trip for me but MORE than worth it.

I like to eat at Oklahoma Joe's in KC. Do you notice a trend here on this thread? Looks like we know our way to the food bowl !!
