I started with wood but got tired of breaking them, then went to aluminum but I got tired of bending them, so I went to carbon for their durability and stiffness but now my arrows just ricochet off rocks and trees never to be seen again!   :biglaugh:
I'll probably stay with my carbon for my hunting set-up but I am going to buy some woods as they just seem to go so well with my new longbow that actually LOOKS like a longbow! (I somehow don't like the hybrids as well though I acknowledge their superior shooting characteristics in many cases)  :)   All just for the fun of it!

No doubt carbon is more durable, maybe even shoots better, and the generally thinner shafts do penetrate better.  All in all, it's probably a better shaft material, but it has no soul. I've been shooting wood for more than 40 years and see no need to change.  Besides, with my woodies in the woods, I have excellent fire starter present should I ever need it.  Awfully hard to light carbons.     :biglaugh:

Wood arrows don't have a 'soul'...and they are carbon based......so we all are shooting carbon to some extent.

My wife is waring carbon as we speak....the diamond in her wedding ring.

Carbon straight or broke. When I have the time I like to build woods. Have not done it in a long time though

Just started shooting carbon. They last a lot longer, are straighter, you can load the front and keep the arrow light enough for light weight bows, i like the way you can rotate the knock.

The only thing i dont like is the insert is epoxied in and you cant adjust the orentation of the broadhead

Aluminum for years, fiberglass before that, wood is where I started.  Larry Hanify talked me into trying carbon and now I shoot carbon and love them. You will too.

A self bowyer in our club shoots nothing but natural wood shafts or cane arrows..... he breaks a heck of a lot less shafts than I did when I was shooting the storebought shafting.

I think that shafts out of saplings or split timber are a lot more durable than the dowels sold as shafting material because the grain isn't violated, therefore making a stronger arrow...

They are however a big pain to make.... I just made my first one out of a rosebush shoot....

I shoot carbon because of the ease of maintaining them and their durability

I love shooting both! How's that for a politician's answer?   :biglaugh:   I love the quietness and smooth feel of a wood arrow. They are a thing of beautiful when made right. I am going through a few hundred old ACME POC shafts right now check spine and weight and bundling them together...then I get to make arrows!!! But I have to admit that carbons accurate..if you are! I do shoot CEs that have the "wood look" to them though!! I like the ability to weight the carbons also. A heavy carbon with 225gr. up front really hammers a target.

Like many I do shoot both but carbons are number one for me.It is fun to shoot something once in a while with a wood or bamboo arrow but otherwise I hunt with carbon.

Wood for me, as long as it's NOT poc!!  That stuff doesn't seem to last worth a damn, but ash, maple or birch keep going, stump shot after stump shot.  Two shots at clumps of grass with my carbons (Bemans) resulted in two broken carbons... guess you have to buy the really $$$ ones to get the durability??

Aluminum here.  Woodies are pretty but way too dang expensive.  My son just ordered shafts and all the bits to make another dozen ash arrows for $80 some dollars?!  What the heck man - as fast as they break (and at least the ash last longer than that poplar crap he was shooting), I can't see ever switching back to wood.

I've shot carbon before w/ my recurve and my have a go at some again from my longbow but wood - sheesh!
