I have question about Bear Kodiak Magnum

Back in 1997 I helped a friend move to MO. After I helped him he gave me a Bear Kodiak Magnum bow that belonged to his father. I didn't know he was going to and it came as a suprise. He knew I wanted to give traditional a try but also knew I didn't have the cash to buy a bow.
The AMO is 52" and 45 lbs. This is marked with what looks to be pencil under the finish. There is a date on it for 1953. Could this bow really be that old or is 1953 a trade mark year or something else? I really don't know.
I do enjoy shooting this bow and plan on keeping it. Was just wondering if anyone can give me some info on it.

Others will chime in but 1953 is just a patent date, if you tell us what the numbers written in pencil are and what the coin is made out of we could tell you. everyone appreciates pictures too!!! also if it has a strait line through the riser or if it curves through. what kinda wood etc.

Here are some photos. The trademark photo is fuzzy, just couldn't get a clear shot of it due to shaking. The sn is KU57384 but doesn't show up very well in the photo.

Late 1972.
This was the year the medallion you have (raised, instead of inset) began. By 1973, Bear bows were "futurewood".
You have one of the later best looking Bears in my opinion and good shooters too.

There is a raised rest on this bow. Can it be shot off of the shelf or do I have to use the raised rest?

Hi All,
I always shot my Kodiak Mag off the shelf...used the fuzzy, soft part of velcro after the original wore out. A little hint from Stacy Groscup before he died.
