What spine POC arrows for longbow?
« on: February 24, 2007, 09:08:00 PM »
I have recently started using a Matlock, Hill style, longbow, 48#, 70 inches.  I draw 29 inches.  I am used to recurves but I sure like this bow.  So, now I want to start making wood arrows to get more traditional.

Goldtip 35/55 traditionals (30.5 ") with 125 grains fly OK.  Easton 2016 Legacy (30") with 125 grain are noticeably too stiff.  A 1916 (30") with 100 grains flies really sweet.

What spin POC arrows do you think I should start with?

I am surprised the GTs are not way to stiff as well. If you are gonna shoot a 30" woodie I woulld say 55-60# would be close but ya may need the 60-65# spine. If ya get the 55-60s ya could go with 100 grain points if they are a little weak with 125s or ya could go with 145 grain points if the 60-65s are a little stiff. Shawn

I think Shawn is right on. Since they are going to be 30 inches long i'd go with the 60 to 65's and go heavier with the head as needed.
Matlock preached a very high nock point close to 3/4 inch. I saw him demonstrate this in a seminar.
