I asked Elmont this exact question some time ago and here is his response:
If you lay up your bow in the traditional way with the tapered lamination on top (belly) of the riser, you do not need the reverse taper in the mold. If you lay up your bow with the tapered lamination underneath the riser, you do need the reverse tapers in your mold. The vast majority of people use the traditional lay-up so we stopped putting the tapers in the press kits to save the customer some money.
