Braintan Buffalo robe
« on: August 26, 2008, 10:08:00 PM »
Does anyone have a hankerin to have a genuine brain tanned buffalo robe. I've wanted one ever since I saw the Movie "The Mountain Men" with Charleston Heston and Brian Keith. Remember the scene when Bill Tyler (Heston) rolled up in a buffalo robe with Runnin Moon? Then there was the Movie "Dances with Wolves" that also had a scene with a buffalo robe.

I found a good deal on one and now I'm waiting for cold weather.   :goldtooth:

Very nice Ron!
What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth

That is a very good price considering how much work is involved with brain tanning.  Me and the wife have 2 buffalo hides from ones we have shot that we use every time we set up our tipi.  They were commercially tanned but still very soft and warm!

WAAAAAY COOL!!!
Thanks for sharing the link. I would love to have one.
I like how he makes sure to say "I'll tan your BUFFALO hide".
In the book I read about brain tanning. It's funny how he talks about going to the meat counter at the store and says "Have you got any brains?" and "I need some brains". Did you know you have enough brains to tan your own hide?
Ha ha, I'm cracking myself up again!
