2Blade,
I'm off Coddington Rd out by Brooktondale. Recently moved to the area due to the wife going to Cornell. Plenty of critters running around just outside of town, eh?

Silver Sticks:

That's my old home-town.  Grew up on Spruce Way (off Coddington), by Ithaca College.

You have Danby state forest that sees little archery pressure, but is run over with gun hunters.  The bow hunters that I have experienced travel little in from the road.  You should also consider Arnot forest.  Cornell manages it (earn a buck program) and there are applications, fees, and sign-in/out requirements, but also results in a drop in pressure.  Numerous other areas, but you will be sharing the woods with the whole outdoor population.  Look into the vinyards, they hate the damage the deer do.

Tough part is that there aren't lots of large tracts of land anymore there.  Also a strong anti-hunting contingency.

I no longer hunt the area, as my hunting partner in that area recently moved.  Good luck!

THANKS KEN FOR THE OFFER OF THE DOE TAG,BUT I NO LONGER HUNT IN THE SOUTHERN TIER,I'M SURE SOMEBODY OUT THERE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT! NO KIDDING ON THOSE BOARS,I GUESS SEVERAL YEARS BACK A FEW EXCAPED FROM A EXOTIC HUNT FARM AND THEY ARE NOW GROWING IN NUMBERS AND EXPANDING THROUGH OUT THE COUNTYS DOWN THERE! EVERY YEAR SOMEONE BAGS ONE WHILE GUN HUNTING! AS OF NOW,THERE ARE NO HUNTING REGS. ON THEM AND YOU CAN HUNT THEM YEAR ROUND! I MAY GIVE IT A TRY ONE DAY! NO TIME NOW FOR THAT, AS EARLY BEAR OPENS IN A FEW WEEKS,THEN OUR DEER SEASON STARTS UP!

BobW,
I'm aware of Arnott, thnak you. I have spoken to Paul Curtis who runs the program at Cornell. They're also opening up a whole ton of Cornell property (more than before) to both bow and gun hunters this year. YIKES. Massive urban control study going on. Most of the deer on Cornell property have radio collars on. I hunted Monkey Run last year with a Cornell permit. Plenty of action, but didn't kill anything. (see my article "Decoy Deer Hunting" in NYB's Full Draw magazine - that took place there) I've been on a door-knocking campaign lately. Every response from "Drop Dead You Murderer" to "Kill 'em all". Very emotional issue down here. Wonder what's going to happen when the blaze-orange gun hunters drive property visable to the passing public.
Haven't ever seen one hog running loose yet, but would love to...got a new smoker.
