once again magic is in the air
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:51:00 PM »
can ya feel it?? can ya smell it?? its slowly creeping in, the changing of the seasons which spells DEER SEASON! as the leaves start to change so do my senses and a uneasy, twitchy, urgent feeling takes over. i know it will not be long now untill i follow my inner urges to hit the woods and do what man and women has done sence the begining of time, hunt, gather and live wild and free. sorry to ramble here but its one of those nights as i stand on the back deck, gaze at the hunters star and feel the wind of change as it blows in a new season up on us and i am full of wonder lust and adventure. soon i will hunt with my brothers and sister, both human and wild, and roam the mountains once again. this is my high, this is my life, this is magic!!!!    :campfire:

A stick-bow in your hands when the leaves start to turn - the only magic left in this world.

Ken,
You ain't found a "wildwood weed" patch up there in the Adirondacks, have ya?  Just kidding, I know exactly how you feel.  I'll be roaming the Appalachians.  The wait has been especially tough down here this year because August has been cooler than usual.  I go to work thinking "this is a perfect morning to be on a deer stand...cool enough for long sleeves, moving deer, and not getting busted swatting mosquitos". Happy hunting!

Someone who does not hunt misses out on what we all look forward to. The cool breeze we notice, the first leaves on a Maple that show color, or when we pass an apple tree and notice a few apples have fallen. The sunshine feels WARM, instead of HOT. Coffee tastes better.

We can FEEL it... we can SMELL it. It is there for all to enjoy, but only those who are connected
get to enjoy the subtle beginnings of Autumn. Too
many people live day to day and do not notice what is happening.

It is magic alright,...and it`s here.

Enjoy and embrace it.

I feel it as well over here west of you, ADK Ken.  And I am glad I have a tag or two left from last year so I can get out on Saturday the 27th!

It is also in the stars. As I walked my dog lately in the early dawn around 5 AM, the air is definitely colder! Time for long pants! Not shorts! I have noticed the constellation ORION has returned in the eastern sky. Perhaps at the most fitting time of year. The Nights are cooler. The bucks are shedding their velvet. The bachelor buck groups of summer are dispersing. A new string is on my bow, and my bow is tuned. ORION the hunter has re-appeared like an old friend and we are ready! Have a safe and successful hunting season everyone!
Someday you and I will take the Great Hart by our own skill alone, and with an arrow. And then the Little Gods of the Woods will chuckle and rub their hands and say, "Look, Brothers. An Archer! The Old Times are not altogether gone!"

Just had this same conversation yesterday. The tie between us and the rythm of the seasons is tighter than ever, almost palpable.  It is truly a great time
