tying adjustable string nock "how to"
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:52:00 PM »
Hey guys,
After trying this adjustable string nock for about a year, I finally decided to do a "how to".  I hope this works.
I try to tie my string nocks with the same size serving or bigger serving.  For example, I have .030 halo for my center serving, and my tie on nocks are .030 halo.
All I have to do to adjust the nock is to simply twist up or down to the desired position.  I never had one slip or come off yet.  It took me about a year to figure out how to tie this "self locking knot"  I don't think it's a real knot, but I'm not sure.
Here is the finished pic.

Step 1

Cut a peice of serving, preferable the same size or bigger.  Then make a "rainbow" above the center serving.

Step 2

Start on either end of the rainbow.  I will start on the right side of the picture.  I will take the loose end and wrap under the string and over the "rainbow".

Do not know if you are aware but there is already one in the how to section of the site.

Step 3

Then I will take the loose end and go under the string, and this time under the "rainbow".

Step 4

Now it's time to work on the other end.  I will repeat the steps, but this time I will start from the left side and the loose end will go under the string and over the "rainbow" in the opposite direction.

Step 5

Take the loose end from the left side and go under the string and under the rainbow.

Keep going, this looks interesting. Don't leave us hanging. This is different than the one in the How To Section.

Step 6

Now take the two loose ends and tie an overhand knot, so that the knot remains directly under the "rainbow.

Step 7

Pull the loose ends slowly and make sure that the opposite side of the knot looks like the serving is "lined up" and even.

Step 8
This part is a little tricky and you need to get the "feel" for it.  You have to make sure the knot " settles" corretly.  Too tight and you dig into the serving, too loose and the nock slides up and down.  Thats why I like to use the same size serving or bigger.  I actually apply a lot of pressure to my knots.  I trim one side and burn at a time, to insure that the knot doesnt slip.

Step 9

burn ends all the way to the knot to ensure that the knot doesnt slip.
Finished product.

So far I've hunted with the same set for one year without any failures, and it's just as adjustable as day 1.  I like having my nocks adustable for a couple reasons.  When my string creeps and my nocking point is 1/32" off it bothers me! LOL!  Because I shoot 3 under, I like being able to adjust the bottom nock to the size of arrow nock that I use.  It seems that if the nocks are too tight, it causes flight problems for me.  I also like being able to set my tab right under the bottom string nock.

I just wanted to share.  It works for me, but it may not work for all.  Feel free to ask questions!
