NC opener?
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:40:00 AM »
Anyone do any good? I wish it would have been turkey season I woulda been set! I dont think I could spell the word "deer" though yesterday. Full moon and all, but being wrapped up with turkeys gave me a lesson in stillness! fun to listen to their calls.

Just wondering if anyone did any good.

I hunted the morning but got busted on the way in near my stand. The roads were lined with deer in the dark and that never is a good sign for a morning hunt.I sit out the afternoon and will wait for the little break in heat mid week before going back.

I went to check my game camera and didn't even take my bow because it was so danged hot.  Even moving along slowly in the shaded canopy of trees, I was absolutely soaked from the humidity.  Came home and shot my bow in the back yard and enjoyed myself.
I think all the deer were up the road at the pool hall drinking beer....

The full moon and the heat are going to slow things down for a while, it seems. A couple of weeks from now things might be much better with less moon light and maybe some cooler weather.

I had 7 deer all around me for about 30 minutes, I waited as much as I could on a decent buck, but he never showed up. I finally dropped the string on a good doe, and after a 45 yard recovery I had my first meat of the season. I don't know how to post pictures, but she looked a lot like Mr. Magoo's doe. I will go hunting again tomorrow. Mystical

Jumped 3 or 4 on the road into my property.  All I could see was flags high tailing it outta there.  Guess those were the sentries cause I didn't see another one all morning.  With the full moon I figured it wasn't going to be an action packed morning but seeing as how it was opening day I had to go.  Congrads Mr.Magoo and Mystical on your does!!!

Good job guys ! I hunted good buck sign but all I got was soaked by the  heat and I beleive every mosquito in N.C. bit me . Went back in to the land today to checks my Dads cows for him and saw two very nice new buck rubs right where I walk into my stand . The buck must have done them late last night or early this morning . We'll get him next time out !

I haven't seen a single rub in my area (Wilson) yet.

Just curious Mystical and Magoo - are y'all hunting over corn?

I saw one small doe this PM but she was out of range.  As hot as it was I would've been scared to shoot her. She might have spoiled before I got the hide off her!  Hey Woodduck...glad to hear you still around!  I thought you might have traded your bows for a surfboard!  HaHa!

I had a good hunt Sat. I saw 2 does and 2 bucks about 7:00am. I was hunting from my ground blind and they were about 10yards away. I am saving this spot for the rut so I didn't drop the string. In the afternoon I hunted from a tree. I had 2 does come in but didn't shoot. I also saw a hawk catch a squirrel and the biggest ground hog I have ever seen.
