Bear takedown broke

I posted this a couple weeks ago. Got the bow shooting great and was ready to roll. Then last Monday I took a couple shots. Stopped to admire my bow and there was a crack straight across the self. One or two more shots and the riser would have blown up on me. It was perpendicular to the arrow !!!! Weird. I shoot 600 gn arrow, the bow is 53#. I over nighted it to Bear on Tuesday, have been told everyday they are "processing" my paper work and they don't know if they have a riser in inventory or when one will go out. Great Customer Service for a $1000 bow (NOT).

I have an A handle with 3# limbs. Having a real hard time getting good arrow flight.

My arrows seem to sit crooked on the shelf.
The velco on the side is new, it had a thin peice of leather. Even with that it still seems the arrow is kicked off to the left.

Do others do the same?

Just from looking at your picture it appears that your brace height may be too low. That would cause the problems you are experiencing.

If not that, then it could be an arrow spine issue.

I agree with Charlie, your brace height looks to be way too low.  Should be about 8-1/2" with the #3 limbs.

I guess that is just the angle I am taking the picture. The brace height is 8.75. I have ahd it any where from 7.5-9. the way the arrow sits on the shelf never changes.

Most Bear bows are "nearly" center cut in the window but when you put a side plate of anything on you will be "left" of center (for a right hand bow).  That being said it really won't have anything to do with your arrow flight if all things are correct.  I always start with my brace height and nocking point.  Your brace height should be perfect.  Your nocking point should be somewhere around 1/2" minimum to 3/4" above the shelf.  99% of bad arrow flight, especially with broadheads, is corrected by raising both you nock point and your brace height.  Good luck!

Your feathers are almost touching the rest - how far down on the arrow are they?

I have a velcro sideplate on one of my B risers and it doesn't come close to looking like that.

If your brace is correct (measured to the throat of the grip, not the back of the bow) and it looks like that, check to make sure the string tracks down the center of the bow.  A limb could be crooked in the socket or twisted.

The Bear takedown I bought was exactly the same.It was about 1/4 from being cut to center.I couldn't believe it.i've owned a lot of Bear bows over the years and never have never seen one that far from being center cut.I also had several other issues,compass set in the hole crooked,problems with limbs etc.They replaced the limbs and handle but the handle I got had no rug rest or side plate.Not a good experience.Since it is so far from center,you may need weaker spined arrows.

I feel your pain I shipped mine to Canada yesterday for a crack in the shelf.  Just make sure you have it back before Feb hog hunt

Thats an easy fix one of two ways.You could contact Bear Archery and see if it's coverd under warrinty or you could fix it with some loc tite  and it will be stronger then original lamination.I don't think the brace hight would cause the bow to break or at least it shouldent....a dry fire would almost for sure break the bow....keep us posted on what you do........good luck with it.bowdoc

I just spoke with them. They said they have none in stock and it would be 2-3 weeks.

It was less than a year old and covered by warranty.

Bowdoc, the crack was  not with the laminations but perpendicular, could that really be fixed ? Obviously I am not fixing something that is under warranty.

Oh well I just got my reason to get a BW, always wanted one any way.

Hope you keep those 8 1/2 inch fletches away from the BW. (Perhaps you used a metric ruler and braced it 8.5 cm. That "angle" in your picture doesn't explain the hen feather touching the riser.)

I HAVE AND A HANDLE WITH #1 LIMBS LOOKS JUST LIKE YOURS. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH ARROW  FLIGHT. I HAVE 5 CUSTOM KODIAKS TAKE DOWN BOWS 3 B 'S AND 2 A'S ONLY ONE LOOKS THAT WAY. BUT IT SHOOTS GOOD . TOOK A DOE WITH IT 4 DAYS AGO.

If the brace height is too low, that can cause damage to a bow. The low brace allows to limbs to flex too far forward when shot.

Were you running a fast flight string on it.

Its been my experience that the timber take downs dont handle fast flight very well.

I only use Dacron strings on mine.

Personally I think the magnesium risers are nicer to shoot, but thats only my opinion.

are the limbs twisted? the arrow should not go across the shelf that way at all...

Nope the limbs are straight. I have 2 sets, 50# & 60#. both looked the same.

I got it shooting fine and really liked the narrow grip. It has proven hard to go back to a grip with palm swell.

My BW should be here today. I can't wait.

Just about all the newer Bear take downs have the same angle to the arrow rest (they are not center shot).I would return it to Bear Archery for a new handle or credit anywho...as for the brace hight.As long as you do not get a dry fire.The low brace really does not matter....bowdoc

I was thinking very hard about getting one of the Bear Take downs. After what I've read from some of you, my mind has been change for me. I do like the Bear Grizzly I have now but $1,000 is too much for a 'maybe it'll be a good bow.'
