I got wood!

A friend of mine from Oregon sent me the best peice of yew I've ever seen.  It's a full six feet long and nearly perfectly straight...just one small hump that will need a bit of attention.

It's air-dried, high elevation wood, with about 1/8" of sapwood and very close growth rings.

I'm going to make a warbow out of it (not a 150# bow, but that style of using no dips.)  

It's something else.  Got to let it acclimatize, then to work.

Gene, J.D.Duff, on the PA site, did a build-along on a war bow that was very well reserched and done. You ought to check it out.
   I am in the process of making a war bow from a beautiful yew stave that was given to me. Mine is 72"long , 1/4" sapwood and thin heartwood rings(about 30rpi).  I'm planning on a bow of about 100#. I don't know why! I sure can't pull it at that weight.   Pat
