Shawn and I...last day of rabbit season.
« on: February 28, 2007, 06:57:00 PM »
Shawn and I took a walk today, the last day of Rabbit season. It was his first time hunting with me around here...I think he will be back next year. Five minutes out, I got a shot, and Shawn got to watch my second trad kill unfold.

We ended up with a total of five shots(I think), and saw a lot of bunnies, a few woodcock, a few pheasants, and busted a bunch of turkey out of the roost on the way in. It was a rather nice day to be in the woods.
Good time Shawn...thanks for heading over and hunting with me! We might need a third or fourth shooter for next year though...lol.

Way to go Jamie, we don't have the rabbits around here that you guys have and pheasants are non existent. How far is were you live from Shawn?

Stone knife...Im about twenty minutes south of where we all hunted.
Im really starting to like that Chekmate...I mean it wasnt a far shot, but it was through a rose bush.LOL. That bow just seems to hit...although
I am gonna have a lot of arrows to find after he snow melts...lol.
I had some good teachers as far as the shooting...and Shawn gets the credit for the pic taking. I wish we could have gotten together a bit more....Next year for sure.
With each excursion...trad seems to fit.

Yep that's the way it always is, we seem to wait too late into the season to do things and before you know it it's over. I'm going to do more small game hunting this year with my trad gear. Starting out with turkeys and woodchucks this stuff is to fun to let it go by without going as much as possible.

Yeah man. It was a great time. I ble w agimme, Jamie called me over and gave me the shot and I flat out missed at about 5 yards. I was shooting a bunch of arrows left over from the hunt that I repaired. It was my own fault for not filing the nocks. Jamie has sweet spot to hunt and we saw at least 10 bunnies in about an hour or so. Jamie drilled tha bunny right at the base of the skull, he did not even kick. Spine shot for sure. The two hen pheasant were nice to see and turkeys and about 100 mallards. It was a great time with a new huntin' bud!! Thanks Jamie!! I will have more later! Shawn

Any time bro...I should talk to the landowner and have a practice run for next years BH. Get a few guys...have a year to make it work.
I forgot about the ducks....they are overhead every day.LOL.

I also had another easy shot, but I never got the bow drawn. We were coming back along this fairly big pond and Jamie told me top tak ethe high side and he would walk down along an old fence. I was circling to get in position for a shot if Jamie kicked one out and I look under a bush and there one sits. He was about ten feet away. I had to re-postion my feet and the crunchy snow made him nervous and he blasted out of there. I ran up to the tractor path and let one fly, he was 40 yards away and running hard, but Ishot just behind him. I cannot wait until the next time we hunt together, we aree talking turkeys out of one of our blinds!! Shawn

There's a "Season" on rabbits in NY???  Wow...Come to Texas.  I have rabbits out the wazzoo and it's open season all year.  I walk around my 75 acres almost every afternoon and never shoot at these bunnies.  Most times I can walk within 5 yds and they only move out of the way.  I guess I should be more appreciative of the resources we have down here.  I don't eat 'em so I don't shoot 'em.

Good huntin'!
